Ms. Shirley Lee Babbitt was born December 20, 1947 in Bristol, Virginia to Orman Coy Hawthorne of Greensburg and the late Lula Mae Aker Hawthorne. She departed this life Tuesday, November 28, 2017 at The Medical Center of Bowling Green, having attained the age of sixty-nine years, eleven months and eight days.
She had made a profession of faith in Christ and was a member of the Sharon Missionary Baptist Church in Rural Retreat, Virginia. She was a retired Advertising Specialist at Orlando Sentinel in Florida, Secretary at an Army Base in Italy and at Eglin Air Force Base and Advertising Specialist for a newspaper in Columbia, KY. Besides her mother, she is preceded in death by her husband: George Rutherford Anderson, Sr. and one brother: Alvin Hawthorne. She was also united in marriage to Ledie Royce Babbitt.
She is survived by two sons and two daughters-in-law and two daughters and two sons-in-law: David James and Anissa Anderson of Greensburg, George R. Anderson, Jr. and Lacey of Summersville, Angela and Leo Jackson of Mt. Sherman and Candace and Trevor Calhoun of Magnolia, her father: Orman Coy Hawthorne of Greensburg, three brothers, one sister, one sister-in-law and one brother-in-law: Lester Hawthorne of Greensburg, Peggy and Earl Babbitt of Cave City, KY., Ed and Kathy Hawthorne of Greensburg and Roger Hawthorne of Eufaula, Alabama, thirteen grandchildren: Adrianna, Anastasia and Aurora Anderson, George R. Anderson III, Jessica Lynn Anderson, Emily and Abigail Wright, Isaiah, Isaac and Dalton Jackson, Anna, Lola and Rain Calhoun and five great grandchildren, plus a host of other relatives and friends.
