With heavy hearts, our family shares the news of the passing of our Patriarch, Owen P. Cheatham.

Throughout his glorious life of 93 years and marriage of 70 years, there are many throughout the community who got to know him as a God-loving man, great husband, father, grandfather, co-worker and friend.

His church life and church family (First Baptist, North Indianapolis) was dear to his heart, and he was a long-time Deacon and leader.As the long-time co-owner of Cheatham & Moore Barber Shop, he gave many first haircuts, last haircuts, grad haircuts and even nursing home haircuts. The barber shop hosted a diverse group of clients from all walks of life...with spirit, comedy, sincerity and unlimited topics of conversation...news, sports, politics and human relationships! He was also extremely dedicated to Southern Cross Masonic Lodge. The Prayers and well wishes from so many over the past few months are greatly appreciated. His endearing Faith, Positivity and kind spirit will endure with us and be memorable always. Owen was preceded in death by his parents, William Martin Cheatham & Myrtie Elliott Cheatham and his brother, James (Bill) Cheatham; Also, his sisters Maxine Cheatham Lasley and Frances Cheatham Buckner.

Survivors are his wife of 70 years, Ernestine Cowherd Cheatham; sister, Irene "Dimple" Burks (St Louis, MO); son, Eric Cheatham (Charlene); daughters, Anita Nibbs (Robert II) and Lisa Hayes (Elder Eric Sr.); 8 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren and his barbershop, church and community family, his nephew:  Jerry and Mary Cowherd of Greensburg and several other nephews and nieces.

Funeral Services will be conducted 6 p.m., November 5, 2021 at the First Baptist Church of North Indianapolis, with visitation from 3 p.m. until the time of the service. Burial will be at  10 a.m., November 6, 2021 in the Lincoln Memory Gardens.

Mr. Cheatham was also a longtime employee of the Craig & Glazebrooks Funeral Service, who has been entrusted with his final arrangements.
