John Coleman Bernard was born August 18, 1944 in Jamestown, KY to the late Carlton Eric and Mary Alice Whitney. He departed this life Sunday, September 3, 2017 at the Norton Hospital in Louisville, having attained the age of seventy-three years and fifteen days.
John had made a profession of faith in Christ and was of the Baptist Faith. He worked for Marion C. Wilder Flooring. He was a United States Army Veteran, serving during the Korean War. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two sons: John Bernard and William Earl Bernard and one grandson: John William Bernard.
He is survived by his wife Mildred Faye Bernard, six children: James and Valerie Bernard and Mary and Dwayne Shackles of Indiana, Carlton Bernard and Dwayne and Rachel Bernard of Greensburg and Michael Bernard of KY and Daniel and Wendy Whitney of Louisville, a special cousin: Sue Stevens of Summersville, four aunts and one uncle: Dorothy McDonald, Eula Hill and Katie Hammonds of Louisville, Imogene Murray of California and Jr. and Marie Flat of Louisville, sixteen grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
A graveside service will be conducted 1 p.m. central time Saturday, September 9, 2017 at the Green County Memory Gardens in Summersville with Full Military Honors.
The family has requested that expressions of sympathy be donations to the Disabled American Veterans to Chapter 20, Glasgow, KY or to the Patriot Guard Riders of KY. These can be made at Foster-Toler-Curry Funeral Home in Greensburg.
