Brenda Sue Price

Mrs. Brenda Sue Price was born February 27, 1943 in Green County, Kentucky to the late Pete Carlandus Parker, a Nazarene minister, and the late Essie McCubbin Parker.  She departed this life Monday, June 15, 2020, as a result of COVID-19, having attained the age of 77 years, 3 months and 16 days.  She was preceded in death by two brothers:  Larry Parker and Wilbert Parker.

Besides her husband, she is survived by two daughters:  Kathy Price Cockrum and her husband Robert of Owensboro, and Karen Price Cecil and her husband Tom of Louisville; three grandchildren:  Jaime Embry and her husband Eric of Hopkinsville, Garrett Milby and his wife Jetona of Campbellsville, and Nathan Cecil of Louisville; and five great grandchildren.  Plus a host of other dear relatives and friends.

She was united in marriage to her husband James W. (Bud) Price on December 17, 1960.  He was her first and only true love, as she was to him.  Soon thereafter, they had two daughters and their little family was complete.  Her most prized role in life was that of wife, mother and grandmother.  She cherished and adored her family, which grew to include 3 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. As the children grew, they adored and doted on her.  Her only love greater than family, was her God.  And she lived her life as a testimony to Him;  her faith never wavering.  Her capacity to love and forgive had no bounds.

She made a profession of faith in Christ at Summersville Nazarene Church and was a member of Hodges Chapel United Methodist Church, where she was a piano player.  She was a graduate of Green County High School.  She held multiple jobs and professions in her life, including owning a business with Bud, working at Fruit of the Loom and starting a whole new career path after the age of 50 when the factory shut down.   She went back to school for training and even got her insurance license and moved to Louisville where she worked as an annuity specialist.  Moving to Louisville was special because not only did she get to work at the same company with her daughter Karen, she got to be with, and help with her grandson Nathan, like she had done before in Summersville for Jaime and Garrett.   At the time she retired, she was a payroll specialist at KFC Yum! Brands.

Once she retired, she moved back home to her beloved Summersville where her days were spent with Bud, tending to their dog, cats and just whatever they wanted to piddle with that day.  They were together – in the place they loved.  They were among friends and family in a community that adored her for her sweet and loving nature.  She adored them as well.  She was once again able to attend her home church every Sunday and any service she could.  Church was a most precious part of her life and she would often plan her week’s activity to make sure that on Sunday, she felt like attending service.  They were happy to spend their golden years together, with each other in the place they loved, surrounded by people they loved.  Her children and grandchildren had scattered but still loved to spoil her from afar and on their many trips home.  She was so funny.  And so sweet.

Unfortunately, the years they had together would be cut short.  When word of a world pandemic first started to spread, there was no way to know the impact it would have on this precious family in a small town in Kentucky.  It would prove devastating.  Despite efforts to quarantine and protect themselves, Sue was diagnosed with COVID-19 on June 3, 2020.  In spite of the best medical intervention possible, the virus was just too strong and took her 12 days later on June 15.

COVID-19 is hideous – and it is real – and it was devastating to Sue’s family and especially to Bud.  It stole the love of his life, his partner and best friend of 63 years.  It stole a mother from her children and grandchildren.  And it did so in the most ugly and evil way.  Her family had never let her spend a day alone in a hospital in her life – yet for those last two weeks, they were denied visitation.  Bud’s last conversation with her was through a glass window talking on a telephone.  And they were denied the privilege of holding her hand and kissing her forehead as she took her last breath on this earth.  They are now limited in their ability to share their grief with the community that loved and adored her so much.  There are no hugs of comfort or pats on the back as someone tells you quietly how special she was and that they are praying for your peace.  Losing this precious woman from this family is heartbreaking – but losing her in this way is unbearable.

It is in these darkest hours that we rely on our faith the most.  Sue will never walk on this earth again, however, through God’s promise, if they live to serve Him, Sue and her family will be reunited once again in their Heavenly Home.

Funeral service for Mrs. Brenda Sue Price will be conducted 1 p.m., Central Time, Sunday June 21, 2020 at the Foster-Toler-Curry Funeral Home with Bro. Meryl Young and Bro. Charles Yell officiating. Burial will follow in the Hodges Chapel Cemetery.

The family has requested that expressions of sympathy be donations to the Hodges Chapel Cemetery Fund.  These can be made at the funeral home.
